Goats for School Program PDF E-mail

Goats for School ProgramSmile Seekers, Inc. has started a program named “Goats for School” in partnership with local pastors in the rural town of Kissi, Kenya. We are not sending goats to school! Rather, the goats enable the children to attend school by creating revenue.

Here is how it works. A mature female goat is purchased for $42 USD and presented to an orphan chosen by the local pastor and guardians. The female goat is already producing milk which can supplement the household nutrition and remaining milk can be sold. The goat is bred and new goats are soon on the way. Being a goat owner means the orphan brings value to the guardian family and the child becomes an asset instead of a burden to the family.

In Kenya children must have uniforms to attend school and because of this many orphans do not get the opportunity to enjoy an education. Education is the key to a prosperous life, especially in a poverty stricken country like Kenya.

There is an old saying,” Give a person a fish, they eat for a day. Teach them how to fish and they will never go hungry”. This is the idea behind “Goats for School”. If a child is taught the responsibility of raising and caring for a goat at a young age, by the time they reach high school they should own a herd of goats and have hope for some kind of future where there once was none.

If a $42.00 one time investment that would change an orphan’s life forever sounds like a good investment, you can donate online. Or, contact Jim Baldwin at (951) 452-9212 if you have any questions.
